This video was the result of an opportunity to leverage near unlimited access to Veo3 the day before I left my job. I was pretty busy with other things and I couldn’t babysit or give much attention to the system, but I could ask it to generate an absolute ton of clips based on a few concepts. I had this 3D design for a very psychedelic spikey virus thing with animated stripes that I created back around 2001 and I thought it would be cool to bring it to life for a video.

I had recorded a track a few months ago called XO but didn’t think I’d make anything visual for it at the time, but once I saw the way the animations were going, I realized it would be a really cool juxtaposition to take these inhuman abstract things and animalistic movements and marry it to this kind of sultry musical composition. However, once I started doing it I realized some of the choices in my original XO music track didn’t match well enough, so I decided to rebuild the track as a harder edged psytrance/psystep piece that was more angular and bizarre— mapping better to the visuals.

The costliest bit of the endeavor was actually selecting, cropping and editing all the clips to work in time with the music and fashion something that had an experiential arc and climax. This is probably the bit of the work of video production that is in most need of automation support.

In the end, however, I think the result speaks for itself and actually captures the “je ne sais quoi” in my head when I first conceived of it. I tried to keep this out of the NSFW territory both in audio and video, but it definitely skrrrts the boundary. At least it’s not gory.
